Dedicated hours spent on creative and loved work.

In the apparel design studio is where I would lose myself. I would spend countless hours without leaving the room because I had become extremely devoted to a project. Here is where I fell in love and learned to sew. Where I learned to style outfits, design, and use my creative skills. In this room is where I would experiment and learn how different fabrics would fall. This is where I thought up of new ideas for visual merchandising displays and began assembling them. This is where I learned to collaborate with my peers to create a master piece as a group. In this studio, where it was hard for me to leave, I learned so much that I can carry with my onto my next chapter and career. I will carry with me the hard and soft skills that I acquired in this studio that became my second home.

Sophomore Showcase

Showcase. This is the time of year that all apparel design students at Appalachian State University get to share what they have spent those dedicated hours in the studio on and their hard work put into the garments. This is what we, apparel design students, would spend our year working towards.

The Showcase is dedicated to the seniors of the program, but there is a pre-show that allows the sophomores and juniors to share their garments they have created. This is not a requirement for the lower classes, but I decided it would be a great opportunity and experience to prepare me as a senior when the show is more important.

While I was on the 2019 study tour in New York City, I found a gorgeous gold silk fabric and a white floral lace that I knew I needed to do something with. This fabric is what began my inspiration for the two garments I created below. I visualized, sketched, re-sketched, patterned, prototyped, and finalized these garments. These were the first two garments I finalized and fit to a model. I am so proud of my work and the dedication that went into these. Once they were finalized I decided to walk one garment by myself in Showcase and then chose a model to walk my second garment.

Senior Showcase

Senior Showcase was.... complicated. During my three years at Appalachian State University, I was looking forward to and planning for senior Showcase. I was beyond excited to show all the different skills I learned throughout undergraduate school put together into one collection, one walk, and one night.

During my time studying abroad in Prague, Czech Republic, I created a blue pattern inspired by the streets of Prague. Using this pattern, I created the several different looks below using Adobe Illustrator. I created the patterns, bought more fabric while fabric shopping on the 2020 study tour in New York City. Since this is a summer professional inspired collection, I bought white and light blue linen and sheer white silk organza.

For Senior Showcase, I was chosen to be Student Director to work alongside my professor to prepare for the big event.

Once I started creating the looks, the pandemic put a pause on the entire World. This put a stop to Showcase, the Showcase that the Apparel Design and Merchandising students spent their entire time in college preparing for. The class came together to make an online Showcase, so we could still share our hard work.
